How to Sew an Earphone Case
Are you tired of getting your earphones tangled up in a mess in your bag or purse? Then this project is for you! This easy to make case will keep your earphones tucked away in their own spot away from other items that can tangle them up. You'll also know exactly where to find them so you're not frantically searching through everything.
You do not have to have a sewing machine to make one of these. Since this is such a small project you could easily hand-sew this together if you wanted to.
*Note: Cotton fabric is preferred for this project
Step #1: Cut Fabric and Iron
The first thing you need to do is cut your fabric into 3 pieces using either your rotary blade or scissors.
Pocket piece - 3.75 X 3.5 inches
Front and Lining Pieces (2) - 3.75 X 5 inches
Once you have all 3 pieces cut go ahead and iron them all so they are nice and as flat as possible.
Take the pocket piece and fold it over on one side about 1/8 inch and iron. Then fold it over again about a 1/4 inch and iron that. Put one pin in the fold to hold it in place.
Step #2: Sew Pocket Piece Fold and Sew on the Button
Next take the pocket piece to your sewing machine and set it to a straight stitch. Sew down the fold about an 1/8 inch from the bottom of the fold back stitching at the beginning and end. Trim off the excess thread.
Now take the pocket piece and place it on top of the lining piece all lined up and fold over the top to gauge about where to place the button, then unfold the lining piece.
Hand-sew the button in place on the pocket piece. Don't forget to sew a few knots at the back when you're done to secure it in place.
Step #3: Sew all 3 Pieces Together
Now place the lining piece and pocket piece face up lined up together (pocket piece needs to be lined with the bottom edge of the lining piece). Then place the front piece face down on top of the lining and pocket piece. Pin all three pieces together, leaving a space at the top that will be left open so you can turn the whole thing out after sewing.
Take it to the sewing machine, set it to a straight stitch. Using about a 1/4 inch seam allowance sew all the way around except the opening at the top. Don't forget to back stitch at the beginning and end. (**Tip** On the top side use an ever so slightly bigger seam allowance than 1/4in so the opening is easier to sew closed at the end.)
Step #4: Trim Corners, Turn Out, Iron
After you finish sewing, trim off the excess thread. Then cut all four corners diagonally close to the seam (don't cut the seam itself!). Reach inside the opening at the top and turn out the case. You can use a chopstick to push out all the corners.
Once it is all turned out iron down the top where the opening is at so the raw edges are inside. I also like to iron all the way around the edges to make it more smooth.
Step #5: Insert Elastic and Top-stitch
Finally take the elastic and make a loop with it. Insert it in the top opening lined up with the button and pin it down.
Take your case to your sewing machine, set it to a straight stitch and sew using about an 1/8 inch seam allowance (back stitch at the beginning and end). When sewing over the elastic make sure to back stitch over it then continue going forward.
After you finish sewing, trim off the excess thread. Then test out that the elastic goes around the button nicely.
Your earphone case is now complete! Yay! Now you can use this to store your earphones in your bag or purse. This will keep the earphones from getting tangled up around other things in your bag and they will be easily found in their new case!
